USB interface

Before the Lizard, the only way to flash drives is by having a special VIA sata card in your PC. A very small amount of PCs have these inbuilt into the motherboard, however most of the time this is an additional purchase. The problem with the VIA sata cards is that a lot of people (including us) have had massive issues in the past with compatibility with certain drives, freezing issues etc.

The Lizard is the first device on the market (xecutor 360 usb pro is the second) to be a VIA Sata to USB converter. This not only means that there is no need to open your PC case, it also means that you can flash a 360 drive from your Laptop! Having a USB interface make sense, it takes the worry of compatibility out of the question and is a more versatile solution.

On Screen Menu

The Lizard has a little on screen menu that allows easy navigation of the Lizard in built menu. The menu allows you to send signals to your 360 drive to put it in the correct mode (vendor mode, etc). It of course also acts as a receiver and accepts the firmware dump, or kety back from the console. This is all done on a hardware level and is not dependent on the PC. The PC only acts as a "server" when you want to save the firmware to your PC, or write firmware back onto the device.

Here is an example of a user flashing his BenQ DVD drive in less then 4.5 minutes. Most of the drives are this easy to flash and all of them are details in the Lizard manual.

Fat Liteon Drive Support

The non slim Liteon drive (fat liteons) are the hardest drives to flash. Modders have spent 100s of dollars in the past buying specialised tools to help flash these consoles. There are 3 different types of liteon drives inside fat 360 consoles:

  • firmware 74850c
  • firmware 83850c
  • firmware 93850c

These drives drives make up over 60% of the drives inside Fat 360 consoles. Firmware 83850c is very easy to mod, and it was a step back in terms of security from the 74850c. The 74850c required some special hardware. It required a special rs232 converter to be hooked up to your dvd drive, and also for you to either solder a point onto the DVD drive, or to use a special solderless probe to read from the point. The whole setup was an additional $70 dollars or so on top of the required setup. The 93850c was the hardest drives by far! While experienced modders hated doing these drives, anyone with a certian level of expertise could do it. Others just messed up their drives! Here is what the MRA hack is meant to look like. And here is what the average noob would do to there drive: this, this. There are thousands of pictures around of people that stuffed their drive. If stuffed before they extracted their key, the 360 is useless. If they managed to get the key out they had to pay someone for a new DVD drive and to flash it to their key. People started bringing out quick solder boards etc, to make it 'easier', but we never stocked them as we did not believe in the solution!

The Lizard takes as much stress out of flashing liteon drives as possible. While you will need to open your drive up (only 4 phillips head screws) You will NOT need to solder anything to your drive at all. All you need to do is use the provided Scorpion tool. You clip on 2 little clips to the legs of a transistor, and when the Lizard tell you to, you probe 1 point. Thats it.

Here is a video of the whole process. If you have never flashed a Liteon 9 series before you will not fully appreciate just how bloody easy this this compared to before!

360 Slim firmware support

There are already many types of drives in slim consoles.the 9504 was an easy drive to modify. However the 9504 drive has now become a 0272 drive with an update, and this has write protect, just like the 0225s and 0401s.

Depending on what chipset you have (Macronix or Winbond) the way to disbale write protect is different. Either way its very hard and at the moment requires a lot of work. Guides are on the 360lizard website. if you are buying thie device JUST to flash 1x Slim, you might consider the xKey (x360key) which is a solderless USB loader as an alternative.

Maximus will continue to add support for new drives in the future, and also if easier methods come out for modding slims

Future support and cool features

With such amazing hardware it is very easy for the Maximus team to upgrade the Lizard with new features. There is no need to use jungle flasher, and learn the complex ways that software. All Software used is in house, and very easy to use.

The Lizard has a micro sd card slot on the side. We believe the plans for this in the future is to allow users to store custom firmware files on a micro sd card, thus negating the use for a PC at all.

There are also ports for a 9v battery to power the drive as well, which might be added as well.

There are expansion bays, so if a new drive requires new hardware, the lizard will hopefully be the last major product you need to buy to flash 360s
