The first PS3 that ever came out was the one that everyone went crazy for, it was the backwards compatible model with ps2 games. Sony removed the emulation chip from the newer consoles to cut down costs.
This console (and one of the 40gb models) are the ones with the laser below, 400AAA. Unforunately this laser isn't that great and many of them fail after a couple of years.
You will know the laser is dead when it either really really struggles to read a disc, or the disc that is inserted no longer comes up on the menu at all. Sometimes PS2 games still work but PS3 games do not. This still means the laser is gone.
Many stores have been replacing these lasers for a while, but we have only started stocking this part 4.5 years after the ps3 came out. The reason for this is that there where NEVER any new lasers on the market to buy. All of the lasers where refurbished, and would often only last a couple of weeks, or 6 months or so. There is no pointin replacing a laser if you are only going to prolong the life for another couple of months!!
This laser here for sale is BRAND new. Has never been installed inside a ps3, new as in new new, never read a disc before! The Ps3 400AAA laser also comes with the drive mech (Drive Mechanism) which means its super easy to install with minimal fuss.
Replacing the laser is not hard with guides on youtube, but if you want us to do it for you you can drop if off at our store in Melbourne or post it into our store if you are interstate.
This laser ONLY works in the following models (please check the model number at the bottom of your console):
- CECHC02 (60gb console)
- CECHG02 (40gb console)
It does not work on anything else, all other model numbers have a differnet laser type.
