New Unmoddable Wii, finally in Australia :(

by OzMod | 2 comments

Nintendo, god bless them, have again changed around the insides of the Wii DVD drive, making it impossible for anyone to mod their wii, with any modchip. The wii has been in the US/Canada for about 4 week, Europe for 2 weeks, and now its in Australia.
The real b^tch thing is, they have made it pretty much impossible to tell if the drive is moddable, until you mod it. There are extra markings on a couple of them - but its not consistent. The code name for these drives, are 'D2C2' or D2C version 2.

It's funny to us when they do this, we won't go into reasons why :)
Apparently it wasn't much of a challenge for the d2pro team, and they figured out the issue in couple of days. That was a couple of weeks ago, as they have been quite busy re-writing the code on the d2pro 9wire modchip.

We have the new test chips here, and it does indeed work on the new Wiis. A couple of small bugs found, so the chip will be ready hopefully in about a week (2nd of June hopefully).
So, we are just letting you know, that if you are thinking of posting your console in, or getting a d2pro 9wire done with our installers please don't do it if:

  • You have an NTSC-U, NTSC-J, or European (PAL, LEH) wii that was bought new after March the 1st
  • Or if you have an aussie Wii, with the serial number of LAH1045 and over

Its all very very new in Australia, so we are still collecting information. It is not as clear cut as it was previously, where the serial number cuts offs where exact. Nintendo have mixed up stock. For example, we modified lots fo LAH1047 wiis that where fine, but the first d2c2 we found was in a lah1045.

All of this information will be pretty much pointless soon, as the new firmware on the d2c2 compliant d2pros 9wires will work on every single Wii. d2c2, d2c, d2b etc etc. If you have found a d2c2 in your wii, please email us with your serial number. Stay tuned!
