22/08/09 - New DVD drive for Wii unmoddable There is a new DVD drive that started appearing in Wii in Australia. So far the lowest serial number it has been found in is LAH1162xxxx. Anything under that is probably safe to work with Drivekey/WasabiDX, anything over that number will probably not work. We advise customers in Australia and world wide to hold off buying a modchip if their wii was purchased after August 15th 2009. We advise customers in Australia to buy the WODE if they are interested in a solution for a newer wii, or to just buy one anyway since you can load games via USB

Who is Wasabi?

Wasabi Team are apart of the same group as CycloDS, they are known for producing high quality modchips. They had a massive break through early in 2008 when they where the first team to bring out wii modchips (the original wasabi) that made the wire count 9 wires, previously it was 17 wires. Unfortunately, the US dollar became really strong, and we had to stop importing Wasabi because it was too expensive Vs the D2pro. They then bought out Wasabi Zero, which was a 6 wire mod, they lowered the price, but their competitor, Wiikey v2, was cheaper again, so we did not import this either.

This is where is becomes interesting...Drivekey (same people that make wiikey and d2pro) announce their product, which has hardly no features. Right before they start shipping Wasabi announce Wasabi Dx, with all of its awesome extra features. Drivekey rethink their rush to market, and over a month they add all of Wasabi's features plus some extra features like the inbuilt config disc. Blah Blah....by the time Wasabi is out, they also have these features. So at the end of it all, they are pretty much the same thing, but this time Wasabi team have priced their product cheaper! Interesting story huh?
