What is this product about?
Datel's is a awesome company in the UK that make console accessories and small exploits for mainstream users. Their latest effort has resulted in the 'Wii-FreeLoader'. Datel's Wii Freeloader is a device that allows Wii users to play legitimate international games on their Wii. If you don't already know (we are guessing you do), the Wii is region locked. Boo! Unless a consumer modifies their Wii console with a modchip they are forced to buy games from their own region as other region games will simply not work in their console. For Australian users this is a pain in the *** because users:

  • Never get to play Japanese (NTSC-J) and American (NTSC-U) games that don't come out in our PAL region.
  • Are forced to wait extremely long times to get the same game while Japanese and American users get it before. Take Super Paper Mario for example, The game came out on April the 9th in America, and come out on September the 20th in Australia. Why the 5th month delay? Its not fair. Another current example is Super Smash Bros: Brawl. It comes out in America on the 9th of March, but the Australia release date is.....well, they don't have one at all! Consumer are dieing to play this game and they don't even have an indication of when it will be out.
  • Are forced to pay PAL prices. Have a look at how much new Wii games cost in the US. They are mostly between 45usd and 49.99usd. The translation at the moment is about $55 Australian dollars for a brand new sealed game. Compare that to the the $99 that we pay here for the the same game - and you will realise that the Wii Freeloader is paying for itself after you purchase your first international game!

Since March last year, Wii owners have been getting their console fitted with a modchip to allow about 70% of international games to play. Well now you can do the same thing without the need to open your console, without the need for a modchip, without the need to break the bank, and without the need to void your warranty.

The Wii Freeloader is simply a disc with custom software on it. You insert the disc into you console and press START like any other game. Your console will then prompt you to insert your international disc. You eject your Wii Freeloader disc, and insert the game you want to play. Thats it! It's an external solution, and that is as easy as it will ever get :)

FAQ

FAQ (only a guide, we will update this when we have done our tests)

Q: Will the Wii Freeloader allow me to play games on burnt media (backups)
A: No, not at all. But it can be used WITH a modchip to increase the compatibility of international games

Q: Will the Wii Freeloader allow 100% of games from other regions to play on my wii?
A: It is not an advertised feature, but from what we have seen and read so far its about 99%

Q: Will the work with Brawl NTSC?
A: Yes.

Q: Can Nintendo block this disc from running?
A: Anything is possible with a firmware update, but you would really have to ask why they would want to, as the Wii Freeloader only allows legitimate games to run. There is no warranty from us if Nintendo block the disc, that is something you will need to take up with Datel directly. It works on Firmware 3.2e and that is all Datel are guaranteeing. Please double check before upgrading the firmware.

Q: Is it possible to stuff up my Wii with the Wii Freeloader? I've heard about bricking, whats that about?
A: Please check the Manual Tab

Datels Sales Message

From Datel:

This is the one you’ve all been waiting for! Wii FreeLoader lets you play ANY region of Wii or GameCube game on your Nintendo Wii! At last, you can import games from other territories and play them on your Wii…

Videogamers the world over get really frustrated when games are released in other territories long before they reach the shops in their home country, if they ever get released at all. You want to play that blockbuster survival horror which is out in Japan three months before it hits the shelves elsewhere. What about the soccer or F1 sim which only gets a European release or a gridiron football or NBL baseball game that’s never released outside the States? Or maybe you bought an imported Wii because you wanted to get it early, and you now want to play games from your own region without buying a second machine. Well, now you can. With Wii FreeLoader, you can play ANY region of game on your Wii!

Wii FreeLoader is really easy to use. Simply insert your FreeLoader disc and load it in the usual way. When the drive stops, eject the Wii FreeLoader disc and insert the game, which then loads and plays just like it would on its own region of Wii. It’s as simple as that!

Wii FreeLoader is 100% unofficial, but as it requires no modifications to your console, it does not invalidate the warranty. As well as letting you play Wii games from all regions, Wii FreeLoader also works with imported GameCube games when played on your Wii. It won’t work in a GameCube console, though.

Features

  • Play ANY region of Wii or GameCube game on ANY Wii.
  • Easy to use.
  • No console modification required.
  • Doesn’t invalidate warranty.
  • Play games never released in your region.
  • Play local games on your imported console.
  • 100% unofficial.

FreeLoader Manual

FREELOADER INSTRUCTION MANUAL FOR Wii

Getting Started

Follow the simple instructions below to start up FreeLoader for Wii:

  1. If the Game that you wish to play is from an NTSC region then you may need to first set the display setting to 60 Hz. For best results. This setting is found in the Tools Menu on your console
  2. Insert the FreeLoader for Wii disk and it will automatically load and run.
  3. Multiple colour bars on the screen will indicate that FreeLoader for Wii is in operation. The colour bars will appear twice then the drive will stop.
  4. Eject the Freeloader disk and now insert the Game Disk that you want to play.
  5. The Game will play as normal.

Game Upgrades

Most game disks have an upgrade program which is loaded before the game application itself.
The purpose of the upgrade program is to update your console, where necessary, with new firmware modules.
When loading a game from another region on your console this upgrade program may have unpredictable results if loaded.
FreeLoader for Wii will prevent this upgrade program from being loaded and will only load the main game application.
A number of games will not function unless the upgrade program has first been loaded and so FreeLoader has an alternate.

Alternative method

  1. Insert the FreeLoader for Wii disk and it will automatically load and run.
  2. Multiple colour bars on the screen will indicate that FreeLoader for Wii is in operation. The colour bars will appear twice then the drive will stop.
  3. Eject the Freeloader disk and then RE-INSERT / RE-LOAD the Freeloader disk once more.
  4. The multiple colour bars will appear twice more and the drive will again stop.
  5. Only after the Freeloader disk has been separately loaded on 2 occasions, eject the Freeloader disk and now insert the Game Disk that you want to play. The Game will play as normal and this time the upgrade program will be selectively loaded.
Please be aware that allowing the upgrade program to run may, in a number of cases, still cause unwanted effects.
Since any game updates can create unwanted results or even incompatibility with Freeloader, it is recommended that all new games, even ones from your own region, are loaded via Freeloader’s alternative selective upgrade method.

CAUTION - Online Upgrades

FreeLoader for Wii works with all current versions of Wii firmware at the time of its release.
No guarantee can be given of compatibility with future firmware releases so if Online Updates are performed on your console this may prevent Freeloader from functioning correctly.
We recommend that you consider the benefits of any Online Upgrade against the possible loss of compatibility with freeloader and its functions.

Conclusion

FreeLoader for Wii uses proprietary technology to enable your console to play import games from other regions. Using FreeLoader for Wii you can now, for example, easily play Japanese or U.S. games on any European console. You must however purchase correct Freeloader version based on country of origin. Europe for Pal, US for NTSC and Japan for Japan.
We recommend you always buy a game designed for your own region wherever possible due to language differences and extra features, etc. However there will be occasions when you simply can’t obtain a game, or are not prepared to wait many months for a foreign title to be released in your region. In these cases, FreeLoader for Wii is your passport to playing games from any country, on your console.
If you’re one of the many gamers that bought an imported console and you now want to play games from your own country, then FreeLoader for Wii is also ideal for this task. Whichever way you use FreeLoader for Wii, no modifications to your console are needed and your console’s warranty is kept intact.
