Description

Stock Status: Discontinued. Wiikey have stopped making Legit wiikeys, so there are non available anymore. We tried to get some from China, but they are unfortunatley clones, which cannot be upgraded, which means they are stuck on 1.9 firmware (cannot play half the games on the market). We have stopped our search, since Wiikey v2 isn't that much more expensive - and it also works on D2c, d2c2, and d2e, which wiikey v1 cannot.

Attention: Not confident? This product is for buying the wiikey and installing yourself. What a pro to install it for you? Buy the Installation service around Australia here

Attention 2: You need a Triwing screw driver, solder and wire to install a wiikey

The WiiKey is by far the most popular mod for the Nintendo Wii for early consoles. The Wiikey was the first modchip that allows your wii to play international games! There are many revisions of the wiikey, we have the latest with gold pads and a hologram. Many installers and suppliers out there sell clone wiikeys. These are nasty 10cent products that you don't want in your wii. The have an extremely high failure rate, and will not be upgradeable via DVD. Please don't ask us if we supply clones, we don't.

Please read the FAQ, and the Specs if you are interested in the details. Any more questions? Contact us.

There are currently 3 types of wiis in Australia. The best way to tell what type you have is by the serial number at the bottom of your console, but you can never be 100% sure unless you open the console and have a look. We do see a lot of consoles though, and these serial number cut offs are very accurate.

Under LAH1016 These is a normal wii with DMS/D2B chipset. Most people with a steady hand and some soldering skills (and the right equipment) should be able to do this installation.
Between LAH1016 and LAH10216

This is a wii with 3 pins cut out of the consoles IC. The IC is what the wiikey 'talks to', with the 3 pins cut, the wiikey can't talk to it, hence, it can't work! It still is moddable, but extremely hard for most people.

If you have this type, we reccomend another modchip, like the d2pro etc

Over LAH10216

D2C chipset and above. The wiikey WILL not work on this model. You need a different modchip, like the d2pro

FAQ

FAQ

Q: Will I be able to play games from overseas?
A: Yes, The current capability is at about 70%. This may change in the future with an update.

Q: So what are the current games that will work?
A: GbaTemp - Cross region compatibility Page

Q: How hard is it to install?
A: The solder points are VERY small. If you have a professional soldering iron, a steady hand, and some soldering experience you might be able to do it. If you are unsure it is best to just go with our installation option, and get it installed by a professional.

Q: What kind of things could I mess up if I installed it wrong?
A: A common problem is that people solder off the solder pads! If you solder off the pads you will have to get someone to solder directly onto the IC chip. It is classified as a repair work, so it will cost more.

Q: Can nintendo dectect this modchip?
A: Right now, no.

Q: Will they be able to in the future
A: No one can predict the future, but we are 99% sure they will never be able to detect the wiikey because of stealth mode

Q: How does stealth mode work?
A: No broadcast signals can come out of the modchip, even when using the configuration disc. It is very hard to prove something is there when it doesn't respond. The wiikey doesn't modify any firmware, it is just a drive chip, which also means it is very hard to detect.

Q: I heard that a modchip will 'Brick' your wii, what does that mean and if it true.
A: Bricking means the Wii is useless, just like a brick. A modchip will not cause bricking, but it is still possible. NTSC games like Super Paper Mario can be legally imported from overseas. This game requires the latest firmware to work. If you have the latest firmware already on your PAL console, the game will dump some settings on your wii, reset, and it will then work fine. If you do not have the latest firmware, Nintendo will try and download it for you. This is the problem, because it will only download the NTSC firmware and put it on your Wii console.
So to eliminate this risk, just perform a 'Wii System Update' before playing an international game for the first time
