To Explain it to those that are new to it all:
There is a DVD drive inside your 360, the one that spins your Disc and plays your games. There is software on this DVD drive that controls what the 360 is allowed to play, and what is not
There is no need to a modchip to be put in your 360, and this software, with the right hardware, can be erased, and new firmware can be put on.
Over the last couple of years, Microsoft have changed the DVD drive type a couple of times. Everytime they do, there is a couple month wait until the hacked firmware becomes available.
Q. If there a modchip involved?
A. Nope. With the Xbox 360 there is no real advantage in having a modchip. It will void your warranty, cost you more
Q. Why do I have to pay online when there is no modchip involved?
A. Think of it just as a deposit, to make sure you show up :)
Q. So what is actually done then?
A. We read the firmware off your DVD Drive. We "hack it" and flash it back on
Q. So can't I do it myself then?
A. If you really want to try it out, we sell teh tools to go it. But it will cost you more in hardware for the parts needed, and its not such a noob friendly activity. The wrong firmware or the wrong drivers can brick your drive. You cannot simply swap your DVD drive over - as each dvd drive is locked to your 360 with a special "KEY". If you fail to extract this KEY from your DVD drive your 360 is useless.
Q. What Firmware do you use?
A. Commodore 4 Eva’s (c4eva) ixtreme firmware. What ever the latest is at the time
Q. Is this a once off service, will i be able to play games forever with this?
A. Once upon a time it was. But a lot of people are concerned up being banned from xbox live with a mod. Current mods are not detectable, people that play games before their release date though, will be banned. Ixtreme firmware (1.6 and above) have very strict booting procedures. If a game doesn't have a specific structure, it will not allow the game to boot. So when MS changes the disc structure (i.e. Wave 3, wave 4), new firmware will need to be flashed on for your DVD drive to be abled to play the game. Originals will still work fine, but the backup of the game will not work. In Melbourne, we charge half the normal price for a reflash, even though it takes us the same amount of time to remod. This service is always available to those people that originally got their firmware flashed with someone else! We cannot control the price of our service guys in other states for reflashing.
Q. Can I still get on Xbox live afterwards?
A. Yes. You can currently still connect to Xbox live using this upgrade although things may change in the future, we can't predict it. The best thing you can do it play legit rips of your own games (verify it with abgx360). Don't play a game before its official release date. We sell Kreon drives for you to rip your own games.
Q. Does my console need to be opened? And does it void warranty?
A. Technically your warranty is void with any console as soon as you open it. However no damage will be made to the hardware inside.
Q. How long does it take?
A. Usually about 20~40 mins. Some installers will allow you to sit and wait, some require you to drop it off, and pick it up 30 mins later

Q. How do I know what model I have?
A. It doesn't really matter, as long as you don't have an unmoddable drive.
